Provençal Quilts
While participating in a residency in the Provence region of southern France, I completed 5 naturally dyed quilts. The fabrics were dyed with traditional dyestuffs, like brazilwood, madder, and pomegranate. Dozens of varying colors were achieved through the use of mordants and modifiers.
Inspired by the colors of Provence, each quilt represents a part of the landscape.
The quilts measure about 60” x 80” each, made using naturally dyed cotton, linen, and cotton batting. 2019.
With the scraps from my quilts, I made dozens of lavender sachets, a small takeaway and the perfect souvenir for travelers through the village.
